A few weeks ago I was blessed to win a Baker?s Delight Giveaway that was hosted by Stacey (aka Veggie Mama).? The minute I won I knew what I was going to do with my ill gotten gains; host my very own tea party!? However, I don?t drink tea and so it was going to have to be the kind of tea party you have when you don?t have tea.
I knew just the ladies that would appreciate such an event, so I plonked my butt down and made up an invitation to reflect the host (simple and to the point).? With the invitations made and sent (electronically) I had a little bit of time to think about just what would make my tea party awesome.
This is where the crafty minx that is Mikaela came into the picture. I had recently lusted after an Instagram photo she?d posted showing her making candles and I remembered that Bron (of Krafty Kuka) had made candles in tea cups. Booyah! I had my idea. We wouldn?t be drinking tea we?d be making tea cup candles instead!
I conspired with Mikaela to surprise everyone on the day with the craft session.? I had originally planned to buy teacups from Op Shops, but I had a look around at the Op Shops here and couldn?t find anything that would work. I was lucky enough to find some rainbow spotty Maxwell Williams tea cups on sale in December so I picked them up.
I had planned a menu that would feature Baker?s Delight products so I wouldn?t have to spend the day in the kitchen working up a sweat. Only one problem with the plan, when we went to Baker?s Delight to get the food they didn?t have the items I?d been hoping for. We picked up a couple of items and then I set to making the rest.
With No Spend January underway I didn?t want to spend any money on food that wasn?t part of our already allocated food budget so I had to make do with what was in the house. (Thank goodness I?m a hoarder!)
I ended up making a Vegan Carrot Cake, mini egg pies (quiches) and a chocolate cake (although it didn?t make it to the table).? I had just managed to have a shower and clean myself up when the first guests arrived, with food!

Michelle (of Buttontree Lane) kindly brought cucumber sandwiches (Hello! Nothing says Afternoon Tea like cucumber sandwiches!).? Bianca (of Sadie and Lance) made some of her famous salted caramel fudge (yum!) and Jules (of Procrastincraft) brought fruit scones. (Which was such a life saver because I hadn?t had a chance to make scones and what?s an Afternoon Tea without scones!) Bron (of Krafty Kuka) spoiled me rotten and brought me a souvenir of her recent trip to the UK and some of her Warm Chilli Jelly (both of which I stashed away).
?the start of my Doomsday Preppers kit?
When @Alivicwil and Kate (of Hodges/Burge) arrived the gang was complete and it was time to get down to eating and conversing. We had a great old natter (I?d like to think that we talked about the same things her Majesty would cover when entertaining her Ladies of the Court) about everything and anything.
When the time came we all agreed that @Alivicwil should cut the Carrot Cake as it?s her wedding in less than a week and she needs the practice!

There was much debate about whether to touch the base with the knife or not ? I have no clue!? She did a great job and even managed to not smash any cake in anyone?s face.
With the food out of the way we retired to the lounge room (the day was a scorcher and I had origanlly planned to have the tea on the deck but we decided against it in favour of staying in the air conditioned house) where the Little Man was having a little nap.
There was more talk, a little needle work (crochet and hexagon quilting) and cuddles with the Little Man. As the day turned into evening the weather took a turn as well. An afternoon storm blew in and brought with it hail! The ladies wisely decided to head home and try to stay safe.
With all the gabbing the time had gotten away from us and we didn?t end up making the candles.? Turned out to be a good event because now we have to get together next month to make our candles! (A cunning plan!)
It was a great afternoon and I?m so glad I did it. I love getting together with people but I sometimes let my anxiety run high and stay away from social events. I think 2013 will be a great year to put that anxiety at bay and get out there and mix with people.? There?s so many great women in my life and I?d like to spend more time with them; learning, laughing and creating.
I think the Little Man enjoyed himself as well? he was so tired at the end of the day he fell asleep in the middle of his dinner!
..tuckered out from cuddles?
Tamara (of One Craftee Mumma) has made a declaration that 2013 will be the year of the Pineapple, I think for me it will be the year of the Afternoon Tea!
Don?t forget, I?m currently running a Scrap Vomit Squares Swap and you can get in on the scrap vomitty goodness. Want to know more: click here!
